First Day of School

What an exciting day for me and my new students! Everyone showed up with happy smiles on their face, ready to see what was in store. The kids could hardly contain their joy over their backpacks - and who could possibly blame them- so we took turns showing them off. We also tried out our new classroom, acted like elephants, and practiced finding our Start Star.

Highlights from today:

N- My little boy, T, had a ginormous break down during painting time, so N quietly gave him the very lovely picture she had colored. So sweet. It took her a little while to warm up to all the activities around the three out-going boys, but she slowly joined in and wore the biggest grin the whole time.

C- While painting our future cubbies, C was the most careful painter. All of his strokes were neat and long and almost exclusively green. Hmm... I wonder what his favorite color might be :) His practical solution to T's breakdown was to put his fingers in his ears.

J- This little boy was much too busy having fun and turning into a "zebra ghost" to pay attention to T's carrying-on. While he willingly jumped into every activity, he wasn't thrilled with the chunky peanut butter at snack time. After a little coaxing and debating, he tasted it and found that he liked it so much he needed another spoonful.

T- Despite the world momentarily crashing abruptly about his shoulders, T managed to have a fun day playing with the boys. Together the three played with the blocks and put on a puppet show for N and I. He enjoyed calling mom "teacher" even if it was hard to share her attention with everyone else.

What a fun little crew. I look forward to spending the next school year exploring the endless adventures we'll find as we take a look in a book.
